<p>If you are planning on going to culinary school to be a certified chef, you have probably been made aware of the high costs involved. <p>Many former students are straddled with huge amounts of student debt, far more than they can ever reasonably expect to pay for.  This is especially true if they have allowed their loans to go into default.  Doing so kicks in very large penalties, and you will also have the added bonus of being hounded by aggressive collection agencies.  It will be worth your time and effort to find out about and <a href="http://www.culinaryschoolscholarships.net/" target="_blank">culinary school scholarships</a> that you might be eligible to apply for.   Money from these sources does not have to be repaid, so it is infinitely better than taking out student loans.  If you must use student loans, try to get federal loans rather than private. You are generally artistic in nature, and you think you could be an excellent chef, given the right training. <p>If you are a young person and you don&rsquo;t have another specific career path in mind, this is  a perfectly logical question.  The first thing you need to understand, if you don&rsquo;t already, is that any form of higher education these days is very expensive, even culinary or other trade schools.
