Cooking your own meals is a great way to save money and to make your diet more nutritious. Food made from scratch is significantly cheaper than prepared foods and is much healthier. This article will give you the tips you need to start making delicious meals from the comfort of your own home.

A great way to save money by cooking is to substitute similar items. For example, let’s say that you want steamed green beans at dinner. Fresh green beans cost about $1.50 a pound even during the season, but frozen green beans, which have much the same color and texture, cost less than a dollar a pound.

Keep a pack of unflavored, unwaxed dental floss in your kitchen. If you need to make clean, precise cuts, dental floss is typically much more effective than using even the sharpest kitchen knife because of it’s small width. Simply pass the piece of dental floss through the item you are cutting for a nice, clean slice.

A big time saver while cooking your own food is the use of a blender. The Ninja Blender is as handy as a food processor and a blender together in one appliance. You can make some quick meals using the Ninja Blender recipes.

Spices should be stored in a cool and dark place. Do not store your spices above the stove. The heat, steam, light and humidity that ovens and stoves omit will all cause flavor loss, and keeping your herbs and spices away from these elements will make them last much longer.

If you are cooking a soup or stew and you add too much salt to the pot you can add a peeled white potato to the pot and continue boiling it. The starch in the potato will help to absorb a lot of the extra salt. You can repeat with an additional potato if it is still too salty.

Even if you’re not an experienced chef, cooking your own meals is easy to do. Anyone can be a great cook, and if you’d like to be one too, the advice provided here will help you to do it.

Some people don’t like to cook and see it as nothing but a chore. However, cooking can be rewarding and enjoyable. Cooking can also be one of the best ways to be a healthier person. A great cook is constantly on the lookout for new information; the advice in this article will further your knowledge and increase your culinary skills.

First think about the equipment you have for preparing and cooking your favorite dishes. One of the most versatile and also an essential tool is the blender. But I’m not talking about just any blender. You need one that also acts like a food processor. You can do so many things with one of these. Make sure you get a good one if you go and buy a new one. Personally I like the Ninja blender. It is a high end blender but you’ll get many years of trouble free use out of it. The ninja 1100 blender is especially popular among chefs. There are many ninja blender recipes available for some very tantalizing ideas to try out as well.

Once you have the tools you need, you must start your soup or stew with a stock or broth that is fat free, and then you can make the entire dish basically fat free. Add many different types of vegetables and choose a cut of lean meat to add to the soup to make sure that you are keeping it low-fat. Before eating the soup, allow it to refrigerate for several hours. Once cooled, the fat will separate out at the top of the soup. Then just take a spoon and scoop off any hardened fat to throw away. For each tablespoonful of fat that you discard, you will spare yourself as much as 100 calories.

Do prep work in advance to cut down on cooking time. It’s often possible to do some preparations even a couple days before you need to cook. There are many cases when the meal will have more flavor if the ingredients are prepped a few days in advance. This works so well that many people find it difficult to stop.

As this article stated, a great cook is constantly looking for new ways to improve their culinary skills. The enjoyment from cooking doesn’t just come from eating the finished dish; it comes from experimenting with different foods and cooking methods. Sharing your cooking skills with others is also part of being a good cook. Cooking is an acquired skill that is meant to be taught to and shared with others.

Here are several tips and guidelines to be able to kick start a healthier and stronger year.

So here you are, days following the holidays in which you tried nearly every Filipino food on top of the family table, squeezing yourself into pants and skirts that used to fit you. It is really not a challenge of being vain but of overall health – a purification from your excusable food binging through the holidays.

How to handle it? Below are a few strategies and reminders on the way to get back on the healthy and balanced lifestyle:

How can we enable the body to detoxify after all the eating and drinking through the holidays?

Let’s first discuss detoxification. Detoxification came from the concept that toxins are acquired in the human body from the “unhealthy” drink and food, that causes health conditions, after binge eating throughout the holidays. Detoxification is like a filtering practice from material indulgence.

What are the beneficial methods to cook meals if we want to keep healthy?

If you’re wondering the easiest way to make the meals my answer is something within the method of cooking. To trim your fat content, the best methods of cooking food is by boiling, steaming, roasting or grilling. Such methods of cooking food will not utilize oil or fat that will aid lessen added unhealthy calories for those who are weight conscious. Lots of Filipino recipes can be cooked through these healthier methods.

Boiling your food will have significantly less calories than when it’s fried.

Are vegetables and fruit the way to go?

Fresh fruits are best ingested as whole fruit. This is because you will get to take in the fiber and acquire the most nutrients especially when you take in the fruits with the skin. Guidelines for healthy eating strongly suggest the consumption of fruit and veggies (5 to 9 servings per day). High-fiber consumption has been associated with reduced risk of coronary disease. You can incorporate these fruit and veggies as starters to your Filipino food meals to sustain a well balanced diet.

The Broil King Model 94628 Crown 20 Post-Style 44000 BTU natural gas barbecue grill makes it possible for one to cook healthy. The fact that one can use natural gas makes it a green product one can invest their money in. These safety tips make it easy for individuals to use the equipment when enjoying a barbecue.

It is important to make sure that all connections are secure before using this gas barbecue grill. This can be done easily by using a leak detection solution. If there are leaks, be sure to turn of gas supply and readjust the gas hoses and pipes.

One is advisable to store gas supply cylinder outside the house. They should also be placed in an upright position. This prevents effects of gas leaks in case the cylinder happens to have a problem. Always check that the gas cylinder is good condition. Check for dents, cuts or breakages.

Plenty of people nowadays are putting on weight or feeling sluggish and lacking in energy as they go about their daily life. Many people in the nutritional field put this down to the modern diet. Their solution would be that we should return to the Paleolithic Diet that human being have been eating for the fast majority of their time on earth.

The theory being this view is that as humans we have only been growing grains and farming animals for their milk and dairy products for about 10 thousand years now. Whilst this may seem a long time, relatively it is no time at all given that we have been living on this planet for millions of years now. In short our bodies are still designed to eat the diet we used to eat as cavemen.

The principles of this Paleo Diet are that we should only eat meat, fish, nuts, fruit and vegetables; avoid grains dairy products and all of the modern processed foods.

For this tasty pork chops and dressing recipe you need a 5 quart dutch oven with a lid. A frying pan, 2 boxes of Stove Top Stuffing for Chicken. It says that right on the front of the package. Don’t get anything else but the Stove Top Stuffing for chicken as the rest of the types aren’t as good.

You also need 6 pork chops, preferably with the bone out. I cut my boneless pork chops from the boneless pork loins I buy on sale for less that $2.00 per pound. I cut the chops about 1 inch thick as that’s how I like them. You also need an onion and 1 stick of margarine for thw boneless porck chops recipes.

Chop the onion until it’s fairly fine, add 3 2/3s cups water into the 5 quart dutch oven. Put the onion and the stick of margarine in the water and turn the heat on. After it’s been boiling for a couple of minutes shut it off and add both boxes of the stuffing mix to the dutch oven. Stir it all up with a meat fork and then put the cover on and let if sit for a few minutes.

If you are planning on going to culinary school to be a certified chef, you have probably been made aware of the high costs involved. You are most likely asking yourself if you should use student loans to pay these costs.

Many former students are straddled with huge amounts of student debt, far more than they can ever reasonably expect to pay for. This is especially true if they have allowed their loans to go into default. Doing so kicks in very large penalties, and you will also have the added bonus of being hounded by aggressive collection agencies. It will be worth your time and effort to find out about and culinary school scholarships that you might be eligible to apply for. Money from these sources does not have to be repaid, so it is infinitely better than taking out student loans. If you must use student loans, try to get federal loans rather than private.
If you are serious about becoming a chef and wish to follow that career path, you will almost certainly ask the question when planning for culinary school- should I use student loans? The answer is that you might not have a choice. The cost of getting training for colleges and even trade schools has risen astronomically, and few people have the wherewithal financially to pay all these costs out of pocket. If you do apply for student loans you should be aware that the ones to go after are federal loans. Private student loans have much less favorable terms for borrowers. This will restrict the number of culinary schools you can apply to, because some do not qualify to have their students use federally backed student loans. At the same time you look into student loans, it is worthwhile for most people to apply for one or more culinary school scholarships.

You always enjoy working in the kitchen and making great meals that everyone raves about. You are generally artistic in nature, and you think you could be an excellent chef, given the right training. So you are likely to be asking, is culinary school for me?

If you are a young person and you don’t have another specific career path in mind, this is a perfectly logical question. The first thing you need to understand, if you don’t already, is that any form of higher education these days is very expensive, even culinary or other trade schools. You will probably need to finance at least part of your education by student loans, so look for culinary cooking schools that are accredited. In that way you can qualify for federal student loans which are much better than private loans. Once you get your arms around the financial requirements and options you might have, you can then make the right choice about devoting the time and money culinary school will take.

As all seasoned cooks know when preparing meals for your family you need to have the proper appliance readily available. The toaster oven is one appliance that will not disappoint you. Although smaller in size it has many uses such as cooking, baking or broiling.

If your kitchen space is limited, a toaster oven is perfect and will fit nicely in all kitchens whether your space is large or small.

After you have learned how to use the special features a convection toaster oven offers you may even find you are able to replace your conventional oven for most things except when it comes to baking the occasional Thanksgiving turkey dinner.

Consumers today are very conscious about saving money and energy. Toaster ovens can help here because they use approximately 50% less electricity than traditional ovens and you don’t need to preheat a toaster oven prior to using it!

Most are equipped with different cooking settings so you have the ability to choose the perfect temperature settings to be able to toast, bake or broil depending on what type of food you are going to prepare.

With the ability to bake or broil your choice of meat, fish or poultry you will be able to please everyone in your family quickly and easily.

The glass door found on a toaster oven is a nice feature as you are able to easily see the food as it is being cooked and can make necessary changes in cooking times and temperatures to assure a perfect meal every time.

In 1919 Charles Strite patented the first automatic pop-up toaster and in 1925 the Waters Genter Company redesigned Strite’s version of the toaster and manufactured sold it as the Model 1-A1 Toastmaster.

This new pop-up toaster made for household use was able to toast bread at the same time on both sides by setting a timer and poping the toast up when completed.

Modern day toaster ovens combine both qualities of using a pop up toaster and a conventional oven. To make a piece of toast you simply put the piece of bread horizontally on the tray, close the door and turn the toaster oven on.

You are not limited to only making a simple piece of toast either, you are also able to make a variety of sandwiches using a toaster oven where you are able to put toppings on the bread prior to cooking such as garlic bread, tuna melt or cheese bread.

Models like the convection toaster oven are more energy efficient than conventional ovens requiring less preheating time. You are able to cook full sized meals for a smaller-sized family without having to heat up the whole kitchen. They are smaller and more convenient for apartment dwellers where kitchen space is limited.

Most toaster ovens are equipped with 1800 watts of cooking power, making it a versatile appliance with the ability make up to 6 pieces of toast or bagels at a time.

You are also able to bake or broil meat, chicken, fish or an 11inch pizza and the non-stick interiors with easy front removable trays, drip pans, broiling racks, wire racks and removable slide- out crumb trays makes for effortless clean up.

Embarking on a vegan lifestyle can be a challenge and can very often lead to frustration. If you discover yourself in this position, you are not alone. However, there is help available for you. Taking some time to really look over all of your options is best to ensure that you are able to get the biggest benefit possible from the healthier lifestyle.

Vegan cooking is something that will require a different planning process than you may be used to. Because so many of the recipes you might encounter will have ingredients that you do not care for, are difficult to source, or you have even not heard of them.

For these reasons, what I suggest is to look into cooking with the fruits and vegetables that you like the most. If you have a serious objection to eating okra for example you should never dash out and look for a stack of okra recipes. Instead, you need to focus on the recipes that involve ingredients that you like. Of course, a bit of trying new foods is always good, but building a base of foods that you like is a great starting point.

You probably will not be surprised to learn that vegan cooking is much different than cooking with more usual ingredients. Most experienced vegan cooks find that precise control of the cooking process, mainly cooking times and temperature is important. Many find that the new generation of induction cooktops are optimal for vegan cooking. While most cannot afford the expense of replacing their cook top with a new induction model, a single-burner portable induction cooktop may be purchased for under $100.

While it is not necessary to purchase a complete set of induction cookware, at the very minimum one should have the basics: a 10 inch skillet, along with a 2 quart and four quart sauce pans.

A final idea is to find a good beginners cooking class to attend. Usually community colleges offer some great cooking classes at a very affordable cost some are even equipped with the latest in induction cooktops, so you can get a taste of this new technology.

Everyone knows what stainless steel is but not many people know what it is made out of. Take a steel alloy add in some nickel and chromium in the right proportions and you have stainless steel.

This unique steel is harder than other steel and can resist rust, pitting and corrosion even when exposed repeatedly to moisture.

The beautiful shine of stainless steel comes from the chromium that is added and the nickel makes stainless non-magnetic which is why you never see refrigerator magnets on stainless steel refrigerators.

The chromium also helps stainless steel literally heal itself because small scratches are covered over as a form of oxidation occurs on the surface of the steel. Deeper scratches that penetrate the chromium layer can cause damage as rust will occur when the bare steel is exposed to the elements.

Nearly every appliance manufacturer now offers a line of stainless steel appliances because consumers like the high-end look of stainless steel and are willing to pay a premium to get that look for their kitchens.

Because of the cost involved making stainless steel appliances appliance makers have positioned these appliances as high-end luxury goods which is why you don’t often see entry-level appliances that are clad in high quality stainless.

It is still too early to tell if stainless steel will make a permanent home in the kitchen or if it will be just another color fad like avocado was in the 70s. So far it looks like stainless steel appliances are going to be around for quite a while because of the clean look and durability stainless offers to the consumer.

Probably the only pitfall of stainless steel is that it can be scratched easily or scoffed and fingerprints can be an issue. Smaller appliances are getting in on the action with many stainless steel microwave ovens and toasters being offered for sale.

It’s the eternal struggle, as old as time itself, I’m sure even the Neanderthals were worrying about whether they looked “fat” in the bear skin kilt. Weight loss and loss management is the most talked about issue since sliced bread. But in order to lose weight and keep it off here are a few tip that could help:

1) Weight loss isn’t rocket science; it’s as simple as, you need to burn off more calories that you consume.

2) You need to exercise; both diet and exercise go hand in hand.

3) Try to eat 5-6 small meals a day as opposed to filling your stomach with lots of food in one sitting.

4) Substitute high calorie snacks with low calorie snacks, for e.g. Munch and crunch on that carrot stick instead of reaching out for those Oreo cookies.

5) Take the stairs not the elevator. It really works!

6) Keep a food journal, it may be tedious but this is known to help you keep a track on your food intake and reduce your consumption tremendously.

7) Go crazy with the H2O. Water helps you lose weight and fills you up.

Now these are just a few ways you can shed those kilos, but after you have lost all the weight it is imperative that you maintain. Weight has a funny way of showing up again and again like a really bad penny, and before you know it your right back where you started. So begin your weight loss and loss management program today and see the fat melt away!

Healthy Eating For Kids

Fast food is a big part of modern life these days, making it very hard to teach a child how he or she should eat healthy. The cheapest and easiest foods are those that are normally the least healthy. If you give your child the choice between healthy food and junk food, you normally won’t like the results.

Even though it isn’t possible to get a child to like all healthy foods, there are some ways to get your child to try and hopefully like at least a few of them. You can be as creative as you like, as getting kids to eat healthy foods can be a little harder than you may think.

- Sneak the healthy food in. Even though it would be great if your kid understood the importance of fruits and vegetables, this isn’t always possible. If you can’t get them to eat good food willingly, there are ways to sneak them in, such as making muffins out of bananas or apples, or pizza with spinach on it.

- Call fruits and vegetables by funny names. You can refer to broccoli as ‘trees”, making them more fun to eat. There are many different names you can call fruits and vegetables, even making up your own if you prefer. Most kids prefer to eat foods that sound fun.

- Make the foods taste better. Ranch dressing is great for broccoli, while peanut butter is a great topping for celery. There are several combinations for vegetables that can make them taste much better. You can let your child pick a topping for a vegetable, even if it’s something you wouldn’t normally like yourself.

- Dress the vegetables up. Just as much as calling them names help kids eat healthy foods, making them look funny also helps. You can do this by making funny designs on the plate, or setting them up to look like people. Although some parents don’t like their kids playing with their food, sometimes it helps to get them to eat healthier.

There are several ways to promote healthy eating for kids, but to make them enjoy it also has to be fun as well. This isn’t always an easy task, because kids normally don’t like foods that are good for them. It can however, be done with a bit of creativity. Hopefully, doing this will help your child develop a love of healthy foods for the rest of their lives.

So maybe that is not so much the case anymore, but many people still try to make it the main meal of the day.

A freshly caught fish can be cooked in a thousand and one ways. One of the first things you want to keep in mind is to prepare your food safely, so make sure that you use food handling gloves as you prepare your fish. Any fisherman worth his salt has his own unique way of cooking a freshly caught trout, salmon or whatever fish he caught. So fisherman all across the country has been handed down methods of cooking fish. Here are some tips to get the best out of your fish.

1.Use Food Gloves When Frying Fish

Breading and frying a freshly caught fish is as good as it gets. The smell of butter emanating from the frying pan and the flair a fisherman puts in flipping his catch is worth its weight in gold, almost. For the novice fisherman, make sure that the butter is extra hot but not yet burning. Also, make sure that the fish is well coated in batter. Season your batter to your heart’s content, salt and pepper never goes wrong. You may want to try other herbs and spices with the batter for a more delicious fish.

2.Grilling Fish Requires Food Service Gloves Also

At first glance, grilling would seem to be the easiest way to handle your fish. A newbie might assume that grilling fish is the same as grilling steaks or burgers. Unlike fowl or cattle, fish tends to secret most of its own juices when cooked. On a grill the delicious juice drips into the coals.

To prevent losing the moisture, first coat the fish with oil. The oil will seal a part of the moisture inside. Second, keep an eye on the fillets and turn them as soon as a cut would reveal that the fresh fish is cooked halfway through. After being flipped, watch the fish carefully. Remove the fish as soon as it is cooked through.

An option to basting the fish with oil is to wrap it in aluminum foil. The aluminum foil will keep the moisture and marinate the fish in its own moisture. Placing herbs and spices inside the foil with the fish enhances the grilling process and the fish itself.

3.Wear Food Gloves While Baking Fish

Baking is the best option for the fisherman who does not want to watch over the fish during cooking. The fisherman can prepare the marinade and pre-heat the oven, then pop the fish into the oven for a predetermined amount of time. You may want to check on the fish from the time to time, ensuring that you don’t overcook the fish.

Whatever fish you caught, a good recipe and proper cooking will for sure enhance the catch. Take time to prepare for cooking, a badly cooked fish will no doubt spoil your day. Remember the first rule of cooking, don’t overcook your fish.

If you want to eat healthy, consider cooking and eating steel cut oatmeal. There are several types of oatmeal on the market. The most commonly known type in the minds of many people is the familiar rolled oats, where the pieces of oat are flattened. There are also instant oats, quick oats, and steel cut Irish oats.

It will be said here that the best type of oats to eat are the steel cut oats, which resemble small kernels. They take a bit longer to cook but they are the least processed and contain the most fiber and whole grain.

Studies have shown that children who eat oatmeal for breakfast have scored higher on brain heavy tasks than kids who eat the cheap sugar laden breakfast cereals. This makes sense since oats contain real nutrition and fiber. The fiber in steel cut oatmeal is called beta-glucan, which seems to be very effective at reducing blood cholesterol.
